How to get an A/A* in Geography

Longer answer questions 6-8 marks

-   Ensure you know specific detail about your case studies.

-  Try to categorise your responses into economic, environmental, social or primary/secondary, immediate/long term.

-   Well organized – it is best to use PEEL paragraphs. 4 x PEEL paragraphs for 8 marks and 3 x PEEL paragraphs for 6 marks.

-   Clear and fluent expression of ideas in a logical form; uses a wide range of specialist terms where appropriate.

-   Ensure you are aware of what the command word is asking. If it says describe, then don’t explain. If it says explain how, then explain the process, don’t explain why. Follow this link to ensure you know what the command words mean

-       Ensure you can do basic map skills: using a grid reference, working out scale, locating places on a map of the world, being able to locate coastal landforms on an OS map.

Manage your time – if you worry that you won’t finish, then answer the longer answer questions first and then come back to the shorter answer questions – that way, you won’t lose as many marks!!

There is 1 hour and 30 minutes on each paper; you should spend 30 minutes on each question.
