How to Get an A/A* in Media Studies

Controlled Assessment

·  Use a wide range of media terminology accurately demonstrating that you fully understand it.
·  Be able to apply at least 2 media theories in analytical work.
·  Be concise and adhere to given word counts.
·  Correct SPAG (no errors)
·  Developed analytical comments on media texts (e.g. connotations)
·  Strong focus on specified key concepts e.g. Media Language, Institution, Audience & Representation.
·  High level of creativity, imagination and presentation standards.
·  Demonstrate confident and appropriate storyboarding skills (e.g. details of camera techniques, sound and action). 
·  When producing a moving image piece competent camera and editing skills need to be applied.
·  Clear understanding of target audience when producing media texts.
·  Demonstrate a confident understanding of genre and format (trailer, advertisement etc) conventions. 
·  Ability to meet deadlines.
·  Be able to critically evaluate your own work (WWW/EBI). 

Exam

·  Use a wide range of media terminology accurately demonstrating that you fully understand it.
·  Be able to apply at least 2 media theories in analytical work.
·  Respond to the brief planning for a range of possible outcomes. 
·  Answer all questions fully.
·  Write in role for all questions.
·  Be able to refer to at least 2 detailed examples (e.g. 2 Science Fiction films)
·  Be concise.
·  Correct SPAG
·  Practice example questions in timed conditions.
·  Begin preparing as soon as you receive the pre-release material.

·  Be able to develop original and creative ideas in terms of genre and target audience, particularly when responding to pitch and/or design task.
